Paul and Elizabeth worked together for several years before merging their passion for the District’s youth with their increasing desire to see DC residents trained and empowered to achieve success in the restaurant and hospitality industry. Paul’s vision and legendary presence in the city, and Elizabeth’s business acumen and tenacity to impact lives through opportunity and education, has made it possible for Cohn’s Kitchen to make an impressionable impact in creating a sustainable workforce for one of the District and nation’s largest industries and employers.
Cohn’s Kitchen provides restaurant and culinary job training and workforce development to the District of Columbia’s underserved and underprivileged young adults with a demonstrated passion for excellence and a commitment to employment in the restaurant industry.
Cohn’s Kitchen provides DC’s youth and young adults with an opportunity to:
- Develop basic competency of kitchen management & cooking, financial & accounting, time management, purchasing and ordering, menu development, sales & marketing, guest service, and leadership.
- Gain an understanding of the restaurant industry and experience the expectations and demands of being a Restaurateur and Chef.
- Develop business acumen required to run a restaurant through hands-on training with local Chefs and Restaurateurs.
- Foster engagement, creativity and personal growth through “real-world” industry challenges of working in a restaurant.
Through its commitment and efforts to educate and empower the District’s youth and young adults, Cohn’s Kitchen has succeeded in placing students in some of DC’s most reputable restaurants and with many of the nation’s best restaurateurs and chefs. Each year students receive job offers, additional educational support and job training opportunities that serve to enable continued personal and professional growth and development.
